A Wide range of pre-made vocabularies are available for use with Mind Express.
Express Talk
ExpressTalk is a series of vocabulary packages for MindExpress software which can run on any PC computer under the full Windows Environment (not Windows CE). There are three vocabularies in the series: ExpressTalk-Starter, ExpressTalk-Intermediate and ExpressTalk-Senior. Each vocabulary is self contained and it is not necessary to progress through the series although this is a likely scenario for someone new to communicating with symbols. Colour coding is used in each of these vocabularies to assist navigation and perceptual scanning but not for grammar classification. All of the vocabularies will need some personalisation for each individual user.

Ingfield Express
Ingfield Dynamic Vocabularies were originally developed by Sally Conner at Ingfield Manor School to provide a core vocabulary structure to allow effective and flexible communication development work. Since first concept Sally has developed the vocabularies based on experience of using the vocabularies with children and to utilise the new features of current AAC devices. Ingfield Express has been specifically modified to work with MindExpress.

WordPower

WordPower software is a unique vocabulary design for AAC devices developed by Nancy Inman. WordPower for Mind Express combines the features of core vocabulary, spelling and word prediction. WordPower takes advantage of the fact that a core vocabulary of just 100 words accounts for approximately 50 per cent of words spoken. This powerful system facilitates fast and efficient communication for non-speaking individuals in a short period of time. Versions include text-based WordPower, and text and picture-based Picture WordPower.

CALLtalk vocabulary was developed by Sally Millar of the CALL Centre and independent consultant Janet Larcher as part of a high-tech solution for communication. It is aimed at primary school aged children who have severe communication difficulties but with relatively good cognitive levels, enabling them to eventually construct sentences and ultimately read and write. Although children may not yet be at this level, CALLtalk’s educational basis enables it to be used as an aid to developing these skills.

Chailey Communication System
The CCS vocabulary was developed at the Chailey Heritage School in Sussex. The Vocabulary is structured into main categories accessible via the top page. Each category consists of a subcategory page below it (topics), followed by vocabulary items (keywords) accessible via the sub category page. The categories are also colour-coded to help recognition. CCS has recently been upgraded to include Colour PCS and colour Rebus. Grammar functions have been added to the verbs page and and environmental page has also been added. CCS is designed to be a vocabulary that grows with the user’s ability and is therefore set up for each individual user. A book is available to accompany the vocabulary.
