Smart shuts down while speaking

This may happen if the voice volume is too high.
The volume sliders of the Smart are configured to ensure maximum compatibility with all voices that we supply. Some voices require more power than others. Male voices for instance require usually more power than female voices. If both volume sliders are set at its loudest (100%), then it is possible, depending on the chosen voice, that the Smart will shut down while trying to speak. In that case, leave the general volume slider at 100%, but lower the voice volume slider until the device stops shutting down while trying to speak. Find the proper configuration for this specific voice, for example volume slider at 60% and general volume slider at 100% (as said, will be different for each voice).
If this doesn’t work, then the issue needs further investigation.

Sound

No sound

There are two reasons why this can happen. Both are related to the following issue: pressing the touchscreen and entering standby at the same time. When you resume from standby, the sound will be gone and a reset is necessary.

  1. Entering standby mode using the menu in Mind Express: Extra > Smart 3 > “Standby…”. After resuming from standby, the sound will be gone. This option has been removed since version 4.2.6.1452.
  2. Entering standby mode by pressing the on/off button and the touchscreen at the same time. After resuming from standby, the sound will be gone. This issue is being investigated (February 2015).

Voices

Possible voice combinations

Voice combinations can be checked for compatibility and size with a software tool which can be found here. Please note that the more voices you install, the less space is available for user content. Maximum available space for voices on the Smart 3 = 700Mb.

How to take screenshots

Connect the Smart to your PC. Download the RemoteDisplay utility here, unpack the zip file and run “RemoteDisplay.exe”.
You will now see the Smart screen on your computer, and you can navigate on the Smart using your computer keyboard and mouse. Use the ‘Print Screen’ button on your keyboard to take screenshots, as you would do for any Windows application.
